So, did we fix the bug? Did we even find the source? In a word, no. We’re still working on it. But, the lovely IT people did set up a ‘clean up’ of the database on an ad hoc basis so that we could keep the duplication down until we worked out where it was [...]

thanks Richard! Yes, we originally used the xmlui, and then switched to the default jspui because we didn’t have the expertise in-house to work on the interface (which isn’t so user friendly I don’t think). Having seen the xmlui implemented at Exeter though, I’m wondering if we made the right choice (I think my IT [...]

It’s been a long time coming, and I have to admit that sometimes I didn’t think we’d get there; but at last Queen Mary (UoL) finally has a publicly accessible institutional repository, Queen Mary Research Online .  Hurrah! Our collections are somewhat modest so far (but 100% full content), but now that I have something to demonstrate, [...]

  • I thought I’d post an update on the state of play with QMRO. We’re currently working on a bug that is causing items to be assigned to the same Collection in DSpace twice.  The result is that a duplicate link appears in the Collections index for the item pointing to the same URL.  Not only [...]

Hi Richard, OK, so it took a little while for one of us to get back to you on this – and I notice you’re not drowning in protesters. Let’s be ‘friendly’ for now and see how it goes. Some of my colleagues have already ‘befriended’ me, kind people that they are. I guess it [...]

Oh very much, we’re trying to get our etheses processes all in a row, so that my hard-working colleagues can get content into the repository in a more systematic way.

Let’s say I’m asking for moon rocks and likely to get plain old earth ones instead

Good luck! Is Ethos part of the equation too or is this more about internal policy and processes?

I’ve always been fascinated how certain ideas will spread through a community (somewhat like a disease, but let’s put that to one side for now).  Having recently attended the RSP Winter School at Armathwaite Hall (beautiful venue as usual), I notice the current buzz word is ‘embedding’. Whilst I realise that this is not a new [...]

RSP Winter School last week was excellent, just writing up my notes and mulling over ideas for future projects at QM
